This session described the types of benefits found in the marketplace along with the associated risks. Current reserving practices, risk management techniques, and the latest American Academy of Actuaries AAA and National Association of Insurance Commissioners NAIC developments are discussed.

Description: Presented at October 1996 Annual Meeting. The NAIC Accounting Practices and Procedures Manual was recently updated. This session discusses the various types of reinsurance agreements, the requirements for each type of agreement received, reinsurance accounting treatment, current accounting treatment for various types of reinsurance agreements and potential impacts for ceding companies and reinsurers.
